Creating and managing manual discounts

A manual discount is one your staff apply by hand at the till — a staff discount, a goodwill gesture, a damaged-item reduction — with a ceiling on how much can be taken off.

Before you start: Nothing — this is available as soon as you sign in.

Where to find it: Sidebar → Quick access → Discounts.

What the list shows

The page is headed Discounts and lists every manual discount you've created, with these columns:

ColumnWhat it shows
Discount nameThe name your staff will see at the till
Date & timeWhen the discount was created
FromThe date the discount became available
ToThe date it stopped being available, or a dash if it's still running
TypeGeneral or Staff
ScopeOrder level or Line item
Max discount value (%)The most that can be taken off with this discount

Discounts that have expired stay in the list, tagged Expired discount next to the name, and are sorted below the ones still running so your live discounts are always at the top.

To narrow the list, click Filter by type at the top right and choose All, Staff or General. The button then shows which filter is active.

Creating a manual discount

Steps

  1. Click Create manual discount. The Create manual discount window opens.
  2. In Discount name, type the name your staff will see. Wollette checks the name as you type — a spinner shows in the box while it's checking. The other fields stay greyed out until the name has passed this check, so if nothing else on the form is clickable, look at the name box first.
  3. In Max discount percentage, enter the largest percentage that may be taken off using this discount. Staff can apply less than this at the till, but never more.
  4. Turn on Requires admin level authorisation if an administrator must approve the discount before it can be applied. Leave it off if any signed-in user may apply it.
  5. Choose a Discount TypeGeneral for customer-facing reductions, Staff for staff purchases.
  6. Choose a Discount scope:
    • Order level — the discount comes off the order total.
    • Line item — the discount comes off a single item in the order.
  7. Click Create, or Cancel to abandon it.

What happens next

The window closes and you'll see "Manual discount created". The new discount appears at the top of the list and is immediately available at the till.

Deleting a manual discount

Steps

  1. Find the discount in the list and open its actions menu.
  2. Choose Delete.

What happens next

The discount is removed straight away — there's no confirmation step, so check you have the right row before you click. The list refreshes without it, and the discount stops being offered at the till.

How the discount appears at the till

Manual discounts are applied during a sale, not set up during one. In the POS order panel:

  • An Order level discount is applied from the order's discount panel, using Add order discount. If no discount has been added yet, the panel reads "No discounts applied".
  • A Line item discount is applied to a single line, using Add item level discount.
  • Only discounts whose Discount scope matches are offered in each place, and the operator can never enter more than the Max discount percentage you set here.
  • If you turned on Requires admin level authorisation, the till asks for an administrator's credentials before the discount goes on the order.
